Competition in the high-volume compact car segment in India is all set to heat up further in the run up to the Diwali festival. Honda Siel Cars India (HSCI) on Tuesday launched its much-awaited hatchback Brio at a highly competitive price tag.
Honda's first real volume-driven car in India, the Brio has been aggressively priced between Rs. 4.18 lakhs and Rs. 5.41 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai).
Honda Brio will be available in four variants – EMT, SMT, S(O)MT and VMT. The car will be available in six exciting exterior colours - Energetic Blue, Rallye Red, Urban Titanium, Alabaster Silver, Taffeta White and Crystal Black Pearl.
Powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine, Honda Brio boasts of a mileage of 18.4 kmpl. The i-VTEC engine delivers maximum output of 88 PS @ 6000 rpm and Torque of 109 Nm (11.2 kg-m) @ 4600 rpm. Brio is available in 5-speed manual transmission with optimized gear ratios.
"With Brio, we will be entering a new segment for the first time in India. It has been designed and developed specially to meet the needs of customers here," HSCI President and CEO Takashi Nagai said at a news conference in New Delhi today.
The Japanese company has been able to price the Brio below Rs. 5 lakhs through cost-efficiency measures and high localisation of components.
"The Brio is at present about 80% localised and over the next few months, it will reach 90%," he said.
Brio is being manufactured at HSCI’s facility in Greater Noida, UP.
Bookings for the Honda Brio will start immediately at the company’s vast distribution network of 135 authorised dealership facilities in 83 cities.
HSCI has already expanded and strengthened its dealer network in preparation for the launch of the Brio. This network is likely to go up to 143 facilities in 91 cities by the end of the current financial year.?
